It was important to sell to a company with a similar company ethos

After 48 years of running his successful exhaust business, John Parker sought advice from Uscita on selling his company whilst maintaining the ethos of his business. John shares his experience working with us throughout the sale, below.

“I discovered Uscita via a flyer which came through my letterbox at the right time. Although I didn’t sell at that point I was intrigued, and I did meet with Paul.

My son, who was due to take over the business, was suffering with a long-term illness and so I put everything on hold. Sadly, he passed away and so I chose to proceed with selling my business after 48 years of running it.

Paul was very professional when I contacted him, and he proceeded to help me find the right buyer. I had worked with my employees since they left school. Throughout my time running the business, I had also helped to reform people, who would perhaps have otherwise ended up in trouble, by offering them a decent job.

My ‘family’ of employees were important to me and so when Cobra Sport and Exhausts UK expressed an interest in buying, I was pleased. I’d worked with Rachel and her father, Phil, previously and they had a similar ethos to myself.

Throughout the sale process, we did face a few bumps in the road but nothing too major. Aside from this, I wanted to ensure my staff remained employed and so sold the business on the proviso that a relocation had to be local. The company now resides in Congleton.

Working with Uscita during the sale of my company meant I had someone to turn to for advice and clarity throughout the process. I’d absolutely recommend working with them. I was always kept in the loop and they delivered an excellent service. Even after the sale Alex and Paul have kept in touch.

I’m now enjoying being retired (well, two thirds retired, as I never really stop!) and building Juliette balconies. I’m also planning to sell the premises where JP Exhausts was originally based.”
