Finding the right match for Mechandling


Pairing design and production, Mechandling creates heavy lifting equipment for a range of sectors, including pharmaceutical companies and the Aerospace industry. The equipment was designed, built and produced as needed initially, providing a very bespoke service.  

However, this proved costly and time consuming. Alterations to the structure of the company lead to a standardised process being developed, whereby there were standard components to each piece of equipment created, rather than each being built from scratch.  

The company was placed on the market in 2013 and briefly taken off, when the option of the owner’s sons taking over, was explored, however Mechandling eventually returned to market.  

Managing Director, Steve Young details his experience with Uscita below. 

Mechandling’s Story

“Paul Dodgson of Uscita was commissioned by us to sell our business, Mechandling Ltd in October 2013. 

Paul first discussed our requirements with us. He then prepared a portfolio of our products and business history to show to prospective clients. Paul then acted on our behalf when a potential buyer showed interest. 

Over a long period of time he introduced us several potential buyers. However, due to the specialised nature of our products (specialist handling equipment primarily for the Pharmaceutical market) it was not easy to find a good match. 

Some potential buyers were interested in buying the company, yet intended to re-locate to a different part of the UK. This was not what we wanted, for the sake of our long term, loyal employees. 

During this lengthy period, Paul remained focused and professional. Eventually a suitable buyer was found and the company was successfully sold to our satisfaction. 

Paul is a professional and experienced individual with a good commercial and practical ability. I would have no hesitation in using him again in a similar role.
